S/4HANA Case Studies

As an SAP Gold Partner with more than 30 years of experience in the Finance and Risk functions at banks and insurances ifb is the ideal partner for planning and executing the digital transformation programs that focus on S/4HANA and surrounding software solutions. The following case studies will give you insights into some of the S/4HANA transformation programs where ifb is involved in.

S/4HANA Implementation with use-case prototypes at a Swiss commercial bank

S/4HANA Implementation with use-case prototypes at a Swiss commercial bank

The bank has started a major transformation program which includes the modernization of its operational and planning systems. The maximum use of standard functionality has been declared as one key principle for the transformation, particularly in the areas of the general ledger and the sub-ledgers. The client intends to significantly reduce their dependency on in-house developed solutions.

In preparation of the Greenfield project, a number of detailed prototypes were created in ifb’s own S/4HANA environment, showcasing an integrated Finance view across the general ledger, various subledgers to embedded analytics reports. After approval by the client the prototypes were documented and prioritized in a use-case-based manner. The actual S/4HANA implementation in the bank’s own IT environment could then be kick-started in accordance with the prioritized use-case backlog, re-using the relevant configurations from the prototype phase.

The client is the US subsidiary of one of the largest banking groups in Asia. The bank focuses on transactions in the capital market, securities trading and investment-banking. The client is on a remarkable growth trajectory and is constantly expanding its product portfolio.

In order to support the growth and to comply with the complex regulatory requirements applicable to financial service providers it was necessary to evolve from largely manual and non-integrated back-office processes to an integrated Finance solution.

ifb was instrumental in developing the target architecture for the CFO portfolio. SAP best practices were applied to unify the process landscape based on an analysis of the business-support and accounting processes. This was followed by the planning of the implementation and integration of all previously identified SAP components, including S/4HANA for Financial Products Subledger (FPSL) and S/4HANA Finance.

The client is Germany’s leading financial institution for the SME sector focusing on the business segments of real estate, project and ship financing, corporate banking & advisory, with operations worldwide in selected business areas.

The recently started transformation program aims at renovating the entire IT landscape of the bank, putting the latest SAP solutions at the center. ifb was commissioned by the bank to provide technical assistance with the migration from SAP ERP to S/4HANA Cloud. The maximum use of standard functionality was declared as guiding principle of the transition to S/4HANA Finance. In this project ifb and the other implementation partners are using SAP Activate as project-management methodology.

Developing a transformation strategy for a Canadian bank

Developing a transformation strategy for a Canadian bank

The client is a regional bank in Canada. The task was to develop a three-year transformation strategy and transition roadmap for updating the SAP centric application landscape to the latest available versions, including S/4HANA. Another goal of the initiative was to relocate the entire IT landscape to the cloud while at the same time optimizing business processes and processing times.

ifb conducted a business capability analysis together with the client’s business and IT departments, mapped the results to standard functions (“scope items”) and developed a three-year roadmap for the implementation of an enterprise architecture with S/4HANA as the digital core. The analysis results included cost estimates as well as a detailed transformation timeline that considered client specific prioritizations. Executing on this roadmap, the bank not only managed to modernize and stabilize its entire SAP centric IT landscape, but also to restructure and streamline several of its core business processes.
